Notes from a Styleshack Shopper {Corinne Thomas}

Screen Shot 2014-07-16 at 11.17.30 AMRecently, I was asked to attend an event to represent my company, foodjunky, an online platform for ordering food. As the Director of Marketing for a startup, I don’t have a tremendous amount of free time. As a resident of Detroit, I don’t have a tremendous amount of retail options. Knowing I had only a few days to find something that, not only reflected my personal style, but would also be seen by my colleagues, was more than stressful. Cue Styleshack.

unnamed-1I heard about Styleshack and had even taken the style archetype quiz (I got “Boho Chic”) prior to the event. Due to the time crunch and my lack of options, I decided to give it a try and boy, am I glad I did! First, I went to Styleshack and logged-in to my account and clicked “Shop Your Style”. Options that fit my personal style were pulled up and I sifted through the results. Once I found a dress I thought would work, I selected my size and clicked “Hold In Store”. After clicking, I was even able to write a brief note that said “I’m attending an event this Friday and am looking for a cocktail dress, if you have anything else similar!” Moments later, I received an email with the item I had placed on hold along with the name and address of the boutique I could visit, within the next 48 hours, to pick it up.

unnamed-2I went to the boutique, Guys n Gals, the next morning. When I arrived, not only was my dress carefully placed to the side, but other dresses had been pulled from the racks, for me to try on. I couldn’t believe it. A number of amazing dresses, all which were appropriate for the event, were at my fingertips, after just a few clicks of a button. As I tried them on, each dress received feedback from not only the boutique employees, but also the other shoppers. After trying on a handful of dresses, I made my decision. I then checked out and headed home with plenty of time to spend on getting ready for the actual event.

That night, I arrived at the event with my hair and makeup exactly how I wanted and in a beautiful dress, thanks to Styleshack and Guy n Gals!

{SS} Who inspires your style? Favorite Stye Icon?

{CT} My style is inspired by a number of different people. I really love Chrissy Teigen (model and John Legend’s wife) and Miley Cyrus. They are both very different, but have a certain type of attitude that conveys they don’t care what you think and are comfortable in everything they put on. I grew up loving style icon Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is still one of my favorite movies.

 {SS} Favorite fashion or lifestyle blog?

Picnic with Pug small{CT} The Styleshack blog, obviously. I don’t read too many blogs, but I do enjoy looking at every once in a while, while dreaming of life on the East Coast and I used to look forward to reading the weekly posts on in college, but haven’t followed it much lately.

{SS} Favorite Local Restaurant?

{CT} That’s tough, the Detroit food scene is pretty unique. Probably Pegasus Taverna in Greektown, because you can’t go wrong with a Greek salad and saganaki (opa)!

{SS} Favorite Local Boutique(s)?

{CT} Guys n Gals, which isn’t exactly “local” for me, was awesome! In Detroit, I recently visited the Peacock Room, which has a much larger selection than I expected, so I anticipate that will become one of my new favorites!

{SS} What is your Style Archetype

{CT} I am “Boho Chic”, but my style heavily depends on my mood. At times I would consider myself “Classic”, because I have a strong love for neutral/solid colors. Right now, I’m really into “tomboy” style and love wearing my denim short overalls!

{SS} Words to live by?

{CT} “Always keep a bottle of champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes the special occasion is that you’ve got a bottle of champagne in the fridge.”
