{SS}: Share your brief career journey and what is your current role today?
{Hildie}: After graduating from Michigan State University with an English Degree I fell into a marketing career that grew from working with local grocery stores to my last professional role as the Director of Marketing at a midsize CPA firm in Troy.  Currently I am the owner of The Detroit Pop Shop, a small food manufacturing company that I started in 2014.

{SS}: Are you originally from Detroit? What inspired you to start your business here?
{Hildie}: I grew up in Franklin Village, a small suburb of Detroit.  Currently my husband, my baby girl and I live downtown in Detroit.  My love for the city, the people and the overall food community inspired me to start my business in Detroit.  Hildie Serving customer
{SS}: What do you love about your job?

{Hildie}: I love my customers!  I love having the face to face interaction with some of the coolest people in Detroit!  I also love all the wonderful opportunities my job has provided me.  From serving popsicles to music stars back stage to interacting and collaborating with other great entrepreneurs in Detroit.  I feel so blessed to be able to be part of the positive energy in Detroit!

{SS}: Who inspires you in the business world?
{Hildie}: Being a new mom, I definitely have a big appreciation and definitely look up to other moms in the business who really do it all! My first mentor when starting The Detroit Pop Shop was Jess McClary of McClary Brothers Old Timey Drinking Vinegars.  She is the mother of twin boys and really does it all.  And still finds time to mentor up and comers in the food industry!

{SS}: Your secret to work/life balance?
{Hildie}: My family is the most important thing to me so I make sure to always put them first.  Which means unplugging from tech, and going on walks around Detroit.  I think my secret is just always being “aware” and knowing what my priorities are.  Which means sometimes when work becomes too much, it’s knowing when to say “no” and sometimes even “scheduling” mandatory family time.  Hildie's family
{SS}: If someone had 24 hours in Detroit what would you recommend doing?
