Style Spotlight: Lauren Slete {HOUR Media}

unnamed (1)

Recently we had the opportunity to talk with Lauren Slete, marketing and events director at Hour Media, about her career journey, favorite Detroit eats, and an insight into the upcoming Hour Detroit Best Dressed Celebration (which we cannot wait for)!

{SS}: Can you share with us your brief career background and how you got started
with Hour Magazine?

{LS}: After graduating from the University of Michigan, I worked for a local TV station in Jackson called JTV, selling advertising to local businessesunnamed (2) and helping to write their commercials. From there, I took a job in Ann Arbor at an advertising agency before making my move to Detroit. I have always loved magazines and had hoped to work in the publishing industry upon graduation, so when the position at Hour Media became available, it was a great opportunity to turn those hopes in to a reality.

{SS}: What do you love about your job?

{LS}: I love that every day is different. On Monday I could be working with local chefs to develop menus for our Savor Detroit dinner series. Tuesday could be spent coordinating with the city’s top Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 12.36.52 PMbusiness professionals for our DBusiness Breakfast Series. And the week could wrap up with the production of a runway fashion show, like Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show coming up September 24. I love having the opportunity to work with so many different people and professionals from various industries throughout metro Detroit, and learning about what they do in the process.

{SS}: What are some of the highlights from past years?

unnamed{LS}: Seeing the event grow in to one of Detroit’s biggest fashion events in just a few years is extremely exciting. The fashions on display at the event are always a highlight. It’s great to see so many Detroiters dressed up
and looking their best,
together in one room to celebrate a night of fashion and style.

{SS}: What are you MOST excited about for this years
productions?

{LS}: I’m most excited to see everything come together on the runway at The Fillmore. There is something very satisfying about seeing all of our team’s hard work come to life at the event. And the EaGmcfbGn8CoHsG7X1R-o3OKSmafjWYTqxL3iBnpYj0-1024x640fashion of course! I’m excited to see all of the beautiful fall fashions.

{SS}: What does this event bring to the community of Detroit?

{LS}: Hour Detroit’s Best Dressed Fashion Show brings an exclusive fashion event to the city of Detroit, celebrating individuals in our community who showcase what great style is all about. The event recognizes the individuals who have been featured as Hour Detroit’s “Best Dressed” in the September issue of the magazine, and gives party-goers the opportunity to mix and mingle with the tastemakers of Detroit to benefit a good cause. This year’s event will benefit the DIA’s Founders Junior Council.

unnamed (2){SS}: Do you have your outfit yet? What are you wearing?

{LS}: I’m currently leaning toward a LBJ (little black jumpsuit). When it comes to events that I’m producing, I’m unnamedalways looking for outfits that are fashionable, yet functional. The pockets in this jumpsuit make it hard to pass up.

Now onto your personal style…

{SS}: In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature accessory?

{LS}: My future mother-in-law gave me a delicate gold necklace with my soon to be initials monogrammed on it. I think I’ve worn it almost every day since I received it.

{SS}: A few items in your “Styleshack” A.K.A closet that you can’t live without?

{LS}: Dark skinny jeans and nude pumps.

{SS}: Who inspires your style? Favorite Style Icon?

{LS}: I interned for Oscar de la Renta for two summers during college. Seeing all of the beautiful designs that came out of his studio was the ultimate style inspiration. The woman that Oscar designed for was feminine, sexy, powerful and professional, all things I’d like to be.
