What To Wear Wednesday: NAIAS 2014 Charity Preview

The North American International Auto Show ‘s Black -Tie Charity Preview is Friday, Jan. 17, from 6 pm. to 9 p.m. in the new Grand Riverview Ballroom (Cobo Center). In tandem with raising money for local Detroit children’s’ charities, the annual auto show gala will also be celebrating the NAIAS’s 25th anniversary.

What to wear to the formal  fete?  An excellent rule of thumb for attending a red carpet event is to opt for opulence than ordinary. Think long evening gowns to short cocktail dresses — the former is surpassingly more elegant than the latter.  But, if you wish to forgo a floor-length frock, you may don a little black dress (the exception to the rule) — classic, timeless and almost appropriate for any occasion.

Also, take note from last Sunday’s Golden Globes “best dressed” femmes. The style winners wowed with minimal styling and primary colors — showing swank in simplicity. The more bling doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good/tasteful thing…

Whatever you decide, make sure to incorporate silver in your outfit — jewelry, gown color, clutch, hair accessory, shoes — to honor the 25th silver anniversary of the NAIAS.

To aid you in your fashion quandary, below are three vogue charity preview looks — classic, glam and edgy — for posh inspiration exclusively from Neiman Marcus.
